Best In Show - Chapter Three

Patrick ended up trying to do things to make Zoe happy. He let her hold onto his leash and trailed slightly in front of her, but not far enough that she really needed to tug on it. "Then this girl said that all poodles are girls, which isn't even true!" Patrick explained. "I can't live like this! Everyone thinks I'm like this weird poodle boy."

"You mean poodle girl." Evie added, unhelpfully.

"What? No!" Patrick complained. "That's not the point."

Evie and Zoe took way too much delight in Patrick's Halloween nightmare. Patrick still didn't have a solid plan on how to convince the blue fairy to let him out of his poodle prison, maybe he would agree that the whole situation wasn't 'reasonable' - although he doubted it would work.

The other problem was that his sister's didn't seem to be taking him seriously, like his parent's they kept brushing off his concerns as if the whole thing was perfectly normal.

"Patrick!" Adam shouted and raced up to them. He was dressed as a werewolf with a mask and torn clothes. It made his outfit feel way more ridiculous by comparison.

"Happy Halloween!" Zoe squealed at him.

"Still a poodle, huh?" Patrick asked.

"It's like only for Halloween." Patrick told him and shot Zoe a glance although it didn't look like she was paying attention.

"He's stuck in it." Evie clarified. "With like magic."

Patrick gave her an angry glare.

"Magic?" Adam said skeptically. "You mean like you lost a bet or something?"

"She wished me to get stuck in the costume." Patrick clarified, trying to get Adam to understand.

"So where is the zipper?" Adam asked.

"There is no zipper!" He exclaimed, tugging at the form fitting outfit.

"You're sewn in! You're pretty hard core dude, even if you look like a poodle."

"Whatever." Patrick said, giving up. Being called hardcore was better than anything anyone else had said in the last two days.

Adam didn't end up staying very long for trick or treating, apparently he was only collecting some candy before heading to a party. Patrick had been invited but opted to stay as close as he could to Zoe and Evie, just in case the Blue Fairy showed up without him.

Zoe had collected herself a big bag of candy, along with Evie and Patrick. As the group made there way from house to house everyone commented on how much they loved Patrick's costume and how he was being a 'good sport'. At least they weren't saying 'good boy'.

"Where is he." Patrick whined. "We should go home, he probably already came by and left."

"He's a magic fairy. I'm pretty sure he could find us if he really wanted to." Evie reassured him. "Besides its Zoe's wish next."

"Yeah but like. What if we missed him?" Patrick said as they made there way back to their own street, hitting up any house they didn't get on the way out.

Thats when the Blue Fairy finally flew towards them. "You are real hard to find." He told them. "Although I didn't really look that hard."

"I told you two!" Patrick said. "I told you he would be waiting for us."

Patrick was starting to feel relieved and smiled at the fairy. "So umm. Mister Blue Fairy... Can I like take off the costume now?"

"You already had your wish." The fairy said and zipped around Zoe. "I think it's your turn!"

Patrick's smile turned into panic. What if she didn't wish for him to be let out or worse what if he wouldn't do it.

"Zoe, you gotta wish for me to be let out! I can't live like this." Patrick pleaded.

"Uhhh." Zoe said a little unsure. "I guess I wish for Patrick to be let out of his costume."

The Blue Fairy shook his little finger. "Sorry kid, I can't just undo a previous wish."

"Please!" Patrick pleaded. "You can like give them my room back, thats fair! Right?"

The fairy seemed to think about this more seriously and sat on Patrick's head. "I don't know... Wouldn't that ruin all three wishes? That's no fun."

"But I can't be a poodle boy! Everything thinks I like love poodles or something! Everyone thinks I'm a complete weirdo!"

"You are a complete weirdo anyway!" Evie told him.

"What if I wish everyone thought you were my poodle?" Zoe asked. "Then they would think you're normal."

"What? No!" Patrick shouted.

"Now that is fun!" The Blue Fairy said and floated off his head.

"No don't do that!" Patrick said in a panic. "That's even worse!"

The Blue Fairy ignored him and waved his wand, although it didn't look like anything happened.

"Did you really do that!?" Patrick yelled.

"No Patty, no barking!" Evie shouted at him.

Patrick was so stunned by the reaction even he stopped shouting.

The Blue Fairy just waved goodbye to the three kids and flew off. Then Zoe gave the leash a tug and Patrick tripped over himself to keep up. He just whimpered at the realization that not only was he trapped in the poodle costume, everyone would also think he was Zoe's dog. Atleast he still had his own room.
